Texas Toast Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 green pepper, diced
- 1/2 red pepper, diced
- Seasoning salt and pepper to taste
- 1 Sloppy Joe seasoning pack
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1-2 cups water
- 4 slices of Texas toast
- Shredded cheese (your choice)
- Optional: garlic powder for additional flavor
Instructions:
- In a large skillet or pan, sauté the diced green and red peppers until they are tender.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, along with a dash of seasoning salt and pepper. Cook the beef until it's browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in the Sloppy Joe seasoning pack, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. Mix everything together until well combined. If the mixture is too thick, add 1-2 cups of water to achieve the desired consistency. Allow the mixture to simmer for a brief period, allowing the flavors to blend together.
- While the Sloppy Joe mixture simmers, preheat your broiler and toast the Texas toast according to the package instructions. If desired, you can sprinkle the toast with garlic powder for extra flavor.
- Once the Texas toast is toasted to your liking, place it on an oven-safe dish or baking sheet.
- Spoon the hot Sloppy Joe mixture generously onto each slice of Texas toast.
- Top each serving with a generous amount of shredded cheese.
- Place the dish under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the Texas toast is browned to your preference.
- Carefully remove from the oven, and serve your Texas Toast Sloppy Joes hot.
Note: You can customize this recipe with your favorite cheese and adjust the level of spiciness by choosing a mild or spicy Sloppy Joe seasoning mix.
Enjoy your Texas Toast Sloppy Joes!
