Ingredients:

Filling:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (12 fluid oz.) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 pie crust (unbaked)

Meringue:

  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Filling:
    • In a medium saucepan, sift together sugar, cocoa, and flour.
    • Stir in evaporated milk and vanilla.
    • Beat egg yolks and stir them into the mixture.
    • Add butter and heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted.
    • Pour the delightful filling into an unbaked pie shell.
  3. Baking:
    • Bake for 35-40 minutes until the pie is no longer "wobbly" when shaken.
  4. Meringue:
    • In a medium bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form.

    • Remove the pie from the oven.
    • Spread the meringue on the pie, ensuring to seal it to the inside edge of the crust.
