Christmas Baklava Recipe
Keep This for the Holidays
Ingredients:
- 1/2 pound of chopped pecans
- 1/2 pound of chopped walnuts
- 2-3 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
- 1 pound package of Phyllo dough
- 1-1/2 cups of melted butter
- 2-1/2 cups of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 teaspoon of grated lemon zest
Instructions:
- Start by mixing the nuts in a large bowl, tossing them with ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside.
- Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Place two sheets of Phyllo in the bottom of the prepared dish, and generously brush them with melted butter.
- Scatter 2-3 tablespoons of the nut mixture over the top. Continue to repeat these layers until all the nuts, butter, and Phyllo have been used.
- Finish with about six layers of Phyllo on the top. If you have any remaining butter, brush it over the top layer.
- Use a very sharp knife to cut through all layers of the baklava. Initially, cut 3-4 slices lengthwise, and then make diagonal cuts to create diamond shapes.
- Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for approximately 45 minutes or until it turns golden and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, heat the honey in a saucepan until it's close to boiling. Stir in the vanilla and lemon zest.
- When the baklava is finished baking, immediately pour the honey mixture over the top.
- Let it cool completely in the pan. Enjoy this festive treat during the holidays!
