Homemade Fudge Frosting

Our family's beloved fudge frosting is a treat that never disappoints. This recipe can be easily adjusted for larger batches, and we often double it for those extra-special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 square (1 ounce) semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (homemade vanilla extract works beautifully)

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, maintaining constant stirring until it comes to a boil.
  3. Allow it to gently boil for 3 minutes (or 3 1/2 minutes for a thicker fudge consistency).
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  5. To expedite the cooling process, place the saucepan in the sink with 2 or 3 inches of cold water.
  6. Stir in the homemade vanilla extract.
  7. Beat the frosting until it reaches a thick, spreadable consistency.
  8. You'll notice the frosting transform from smooth to slightly grainy, indicating that it's ready to be used.
  9. Spread the frosting generously over your favorite dessert, and savor every bite!

Enjoy this delightful homemade fudge frosting that our family cherishes!
