blackberry dumplings
The best dessert on earth! This particular day I was teaching my daughter how it’s done..now she makes it even better than mine ever was!❤️🥰
the roundabout recipe for those asking! (I don’t use a recipe..I eyeball it like my mom & grannies did)
✨Blackberry Dumplings✨
Med-Lg Size pot: Pour about a quart and a half of blackberries in, add approximately 3-4 inches of water, and around 1 - 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Boil them for a little while (about 10-15 minutes) then use a tablespoon to 'test' the juice. If it’s not sweet enough, add more sugar, a little bit at a time. Stir occasionally.
Turn down to simmer, then start getting your dough ready.
In a bowl, pour about 2 1/2 cups of self-rising flour, add about 1/4 cup of vegetable oil, around 1/2 cup of sugar, and enough water to make it the consistency of drop biscuits. Some people don’t put sugar in their dough, but I like mine a little sweet. You can put as much or as little as you want. Set the dough aside and go back to the blackberries. They need to have a good amount of juice, so add more water and sugar if needed. Your pot should be filled up to about the halfway mark with juice/berries.
Bring the berries back up to a slow boil. With a teaspoon, spoon in your dough mixture (like you’re making hush puppies). Adjust your heat to keep them lightly boiling. After adding all the 'dumplings,' turn down the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes or so. This allows the dough to soak up the juices!
Sometimes I have to mix up more dough, but it’s easy and quick to do, so it's not really a problem!
I hope this is understandable. It’s an extremely easy-to-do dessert, but trying to break it down may make it sound harder than it is! You can adjust all the ingredients to your taste; it’s not set in stone!😁😛🥰
Your first try might be a bust like mine probably was, but don’t give up. It takes a little practice to get it to your taste, consistency, etc!
Enjoy!!❤️❤️"
